Don't Neglect your Mental Health.

Even before Covid-19, data from the World Health Organisation was already telling us that a quarter of the population of Europe suffers from depression or anxiety, costing about 170 billion euros per year. Up to half of chronic sick leaves are due to depression or anxiety and around 50% of major depressions are untreated.

The global pandemic has added an additional level of uncertainty and worry to an already concerning picture. Advice from Public Health England highlights what we can do to manage our health and our feelings but, as time has gone on, like me, many of us have slipped back into bad habits.

So, on Friday 13th in what has already been a challenging year, here’s a reminder of some of that advice:

  • Keep in touch with people
  • Help other people
  • Look after your body – eat healthy food, drink enough water, exercise
  • Think about good things that make you happy
  • Make a plan of the things you want to do in the day
  • Get enough sleep
  • Do things you enjoy
  • Find time to relax
  • Enjoy nature
  • Limit your news intake

So today, I’m planning to incorporate a walk and a healthy lunch, and I’m rethinking how I incorporate exercise into my daily routine now it’s dark by the time I finish work and how I spend my weekends.

Also, a reminder that Opalbond has a range of customisable snacks available that can be tailored to give you the perfect balance of protein and functional ingredients your customers are looking for, whether that be for managing anxiety, reducing weight or refuelling after exercise, for example.
